Swaerdecroon

The ship left Rotterdam for the Dutch East Indies on 26th of January 1909 and sailed for the KPM in the colonial trade for almost thirty uneventful years. The old steamer was laid up in Tandjong Priok, the port of Batavia (nowadays Jakarta) on 13th of June 1938 and was sold to Vietnam on 3rd October 1938.

From 1938 to 1941 she sailed under the French flag as "GOUVERNEUR-GENERAL MAURICE LONG" for the Société Affrêteurs Maritimes Indochinois, Saigon. In December 1941 it was captured by the Japanese in Saigon and renamed 'HAICHAN MARU'. On 9th March 1945 the ship was scuppered by the Japanese near Saigon as a result of hostilities in the Mekong Delta.
